2 November 2014. Popular clarinet player Acker Bilk died (aged 85). His instrumental tune, Stranger on the Shore, became the UK’s biggest selling single of 1962 and was a US No 1.

I think it was the first US number 1 by a British artist Anne.

I think Wiki is misleading to say Acker Bilk wasn't the first, Barney...

Funny enough Anne I had seen some controversy before whether Acker Bilk was the first but I honestly didn’t think that Vera Lynn was the other artist. The plot thickens !

And upon further investigation it does appear to be Vera Lynn. Confused.com
