Good night

PreviousPage 99 of 630Next

Thought I was on the pig’s back after getting the 60s and 70s straight away.

It wasn’t to be though. I hadn’t a clue . Yeah once it played seconds past the intro I knew the song ok but too late.

SPOILER ALERT  SPOILER ALERT

Well maybe not do much a spoiler but an observation. The amount of repetition on Heardle has really gone beyond a joke. 2 of tonight’s artists were featured just days ago. Perhaps it’s a case that they have to pay some sort of royalties to artists featured but surely that would be each track ? I don’t know. But all the thousands of tracks they can choose from why feature the same artist days apart and had them previously as well.

60s and 70s suited me.

80s I didn’t recognise but I figured the skips were going to be useless so I started guessing on the 3rd, giving me room to be wrong a few times. My logic was the artist was someone writing intros for giant music videos for MTV rather than intros for radio play. My first thoughts were artist X or, failing that, their sister. They both also feature heavily on Heardle’s déjà vu train.

I was able to rule out a few of the Heardle options for the artist as I think I know those intros. The sound effect that ran for those 3 skips was pretty harsh so I narrowed it down to a fifty-fifty of the artist’s harder sounding songs and chose the wrong one.

That was a classic Heardle mistake- when you narrow it down you should almost invariably pick the higher one on the list Heardle offers- it’s probably there from an algorithm relating to correct searches.

So that’s how I scammed it. The song is famous but I didn’t know the intro. Useless on quiz night. 2/3 for me. The first two were fun, instant connections.

Heardle is massive for artists’ profiles. Who owns Heardle?

https://www.indy100.com/news/spotify-bought-heardle-high-school

No royalties unless they’re paying themselves.

Spotify should, theoretically, be neutral when it comes to Heardle choices. They gain when any songs are chosen regardless of artists. Judging by YouTube searches on the days Heardle puts up certain songs, YouTube also gain. In turn the artists and labels do too. And advertisers.

Who owns Spotify? Any major labels involved?

Sony and Universal combined own around 6%. Not saying anything, but

60's and 70's straight away 😎🤗

Didn't get the 80's. I know the song but not the intro. You win some you lose some 😊

Not sure if people saw, but it would have been Jim Steinman's birthday today. He died last year.

Goodnight everyone 🤗

Well eventually back on track with 3/3 !😁

Very surprised and delighted with the 70s track !😁😁😁 Never would have known it was released as a single.

Not so proud perhaps for getting the 80s track though.🙄

And it’ll be no surprise that we have at least 1 repeat offender today…

So to recap 60s instantly recognisable.

70s instantly recognisable (If you already know the song obviously).

80s instantly recognisable (If you'd care to admit it !).

The 60s and 70s suited me best. 60s has a distinctive sound right off the bat. 70s has an instantly recognisable monster riff even if you only hear half of it on the first skip. Both songs nail where they’re going in seconds. I think all the best intros have this quality.

You will be able to proceed to the nearest exit immediately, happily singing the rest of the song instead of hanging around trying to figure out what it might be, thereby wasting precious escape time.

You may need it to operate the fire extinguisher efficiently. Also, movement is freer without a thumb up the butt.

80s starts with a guitar riff that I don’t think ever reappears in the song? Could be wrong. By the second skip I was thinking uh-oh as the guitar disappeared and the production sound of the era started to emerge. On the third skip I remembered the song. It was a big hit. I probably should have gotten the song faster but I’d forgotten or didn’t know it started with a disappearing trick.

Well you're definitely forgiven for not getting the 80s track Margaret !

Delighted that you knew the 70s track, one of my favourite bands of all time.😁

70's I know the band but not the song, sorry Barney 🙃😅

80's took a couple of skips, but I got there 💪😂

I'd imagine that not many people would know that track Lois so that's quite understandable.

That's why I was surprised and indeed delighted that Margaret knew it straight away.

Maybe I'm suffering from Megalomania?🤔

You balance angles here so I'm free to express my inner disco queen. 😘

That's not disco, Molly. That's 80s dancing. 😉

I know songs like this one though Major that we all should know because they were totally ahead of their time and massively influential on future music...
