Good night

PreviousPage 96 of 633Next

I thought that with an easy 60s intro tonight that Heardles might give us a clean sweep of easy 1s tonight.

70s I hadn't a clue of the song or the artist.

80s begins with more of your favourite drum machine Major.

Oh and we have another repeat offender.

So with a 1/3 I'll bid you all a good night.

The 60s was the only one that suited me. I don’t remember ever hearing the 70s or 80s song. In theory that should be incorrect as the 80s song was the longest running number 1 on the US charts that year and the second highest selling Billboard single of 1989 after Phil Collins’ Another Day In Paradise.

So two fails is my true score.

On the scam front something interesting happened.

With one skip left on the 70s, for backup, I typed in funky phrase a. Funky phrase b would be my last roll of the dice. No need for funky phrase b- Heardle gave me the answer on funky phrase a. Ironically, a combination of a + b was pretty close to the actual song title.

I felt like I had a clever system for a moment until I looked up the artist’s best sellers. Funky phrases would have been useless for “Whatcha See is Whatcha Get” and “In The Rain”.

80s was a déjà vu again. When we had this artist before and I realised I know virtually none of their hits I actually checked out today’s song to be ready. I was not, in fact, ready when the time came.

Bit late.

After many skips, I chanced that this has to be that artist again. I typed their name and managed to not recognise the title despite the recent research when Heardle gave me the answer as its top response. After all that, I listened to the track in full and I still don’t know the song other than it makes me want to segue into Prince’s Kiss. The failure to remember the track either tells you how faulty my brain is or that the song just isn’t registering with me. Or both. Sorry, brain and artist.

Funnily enough, judging by the YouTube views these huge hits from a few weeks back and today aren’t staying in the public consciousness. Another Day In Paradise has 450M views v today’s 80s Number 1 of 13M.

Got the 60's straight away.

Got the 70's and the 80's on the second last skip thanks to the community clues, i.e. repeat offender and funky phrase 🤗😋

True score, 1/3, I just don't know those songs at all, but I enjoyed the detective work/scamming 🤣🤣

Slight improvement today but only just.

60s and 80s I got straight away.

70s though beat me. Even after all the skips and a very short guitar bit I still hadn't a clue. Another couple of seconds I would have recognised it.

In fairness I don't remember the song when it first came out. It wasn't til another artist released a cover version several years later that I first remember ever hearing the song.

Is it's intro the same ? I haven't the foggiest!🙄

The 60s and 70s suited me best. I don’t have any recollection of ever hearing the 80s song. I chanced the artist in the end coz the sound reminded me of a 1972 song by the same artist. Heardle offered me about 7 choices but only one was realistic. Having listened through the entire track since I can say I don’t remember it. So 2/3 for me.

I have since discovered this song was recorded in 1974 and wasn’t released as a single until 1981. If you only heard the 4th line of the first verse:

“You’ll come back and you’ll look around”

You may think the singer was Karen Carpenter.

So level scores today Major BUT how did you not know the 80s artist ?🤔

Oh, maybe not level scores, you did get the 80s track eventually.

My apologies. ☹

Who knows Stevie?

No 80s score for me as, even though I guessed the artist because the sound reminded me of the 1972 hit Ben, I don’t remember hearing today’s song before today. So, we are level at 2/3. 🤗

I don’t remember it from my childhood and in terms of longevity, it has half a million views on YouTube whereas Billie Jean has 1.2 billion.

Not sure exactly when the song was recorded but I do remember it being number 1. At the time of Thriller mania there was a very old recording by Jackson released in the UK called “Farewell my Summer Love” and it definitely was a very old recording.

So if we’re all tied for first place do we still have to play naked twister? I’m getting lonely here playing BY myself.☹
