Well another mixed bag tonight.

60s I had to cheat kinda cos I knew the chorus but this isn't the song title and I wasn't sure of the artist. Sooo I had to look up the chorus on Google to get the proper song title.

70s I skipped and took a punt on 2 artists from that era but went for the wrong 2.

80s I'm feeling kinda smug that I got it with no skips so all isn't so bad!😊

I feel another essay coming on.

Today’s 70s song had a formative impression on the young me when I first heard it. It was the first track on an album that is regarded as an all-time punk classic. The album title was inspired by an image like this one by Linder

Linder: Another Music in a Different Arcadia - Design Museum

Spoilers in the link:

The linked image is in the Tate now but back then it had been in a fanzine called The Secret Public. As a kid I didn’t like the album as much as I loved some of the band’s singles. Nothing unusual in that. I think we’ve all been there. Being a fan of bands or artists and listening to 197 of their songs when they only actually have 3 genuine classic contenders is all well and good if

It’s likely that experience among many other similar let downs started me on a militant journey of classic or fuck off, life’s too short. Give everything a go but if you haven’t been grabbed by immediate greatness or the likelihood of a growing greatness

From those moments I would describe myself as a lover of songs x, y and z by an artist and draw a line there. Make mixtapes and playlists. My classics may become your classics and yours mine. Many won’t. Nothing ventured nothing gained. The love always comes back to the melody. Bow down before the melody. And killer riffs. Beats and basslines. And truth. ‘Three chords and the truth’ is often one chord too many.

I did.

I think we’re all a bit like that even if not consciously. We may only consider it when we’re out of our day-to-day routine and walking around a large gallery like the Tate. We may barely stop except to look at classics that really touch us because of a time v. best of dilemma. YouTube is no different. Modern life online, in the greatest library in the history of mankind with access to just about everything ever made, is no different.

Close but only if in here is the internet.

Don’t let the algorithms bully you. Make your choices for yourself. Try and experience the best of the best while you still have breath in your body. Even if only 1% of culture reaches this level of immortality, we’re still going to be hard-pushed to find, fit in and experience the 1% in a lifetime.

Jeez. Not again. And reality TV is never in the 1%.

Think I had the almost the same result as Barney. I know the 70’s band but don’t know that song at all. When it comes to a fast car I like Tracy Chapman 😍 Got the 60’s band and the 80’s song title straight away 💪😊

Thanks for all the super posts everyone. Lots of great music too. Surprised there was no Hot Lips essay on Pump Up The Volume's history with an evil SAW twist and an Astley angle!

Not a great morning for me and I can't blame insomnia on this occasion.

60s I got but only after a couple of guesses. I knew the artist but not familiar with the intro.

70s A big duck egg for me. Yes I know the artist and I know the song but only the chorus.

80s Even let me down today. Yes I got it but had to skip til the first vocals so not good.

As my school report always said "Can and must do much better".😟

Standing in with Major Houlihan's results. She's going cold turkey to beat an essay addiction. 😅

60s was her fastest.

70s was the slowest. Singing came in on the last roll of the dice. Major Mags probably only knows that one song by the band. Lois may get it because of her addiction to... well that would be a spoiler. 😂

80s almost had a recognisable syllable in the 2nd skip. Almost. 3 skips. That may prove costly on the leadership board.

Aw no—the Major's 80s streak on the first skip was one of my favourite things here. 😭

Looks my Family Guy addiction almost came in handy twice tonight! 80's I needed the vocals, 70's I needed the chorus 😅

60's was a play the system situation as I knew the artist from the get go and then had a 50-50 chance of getting it on the first try. I got it on the 2nd 🤣

Looks like it's you and me writhing around the Naked Twister mat tonight, Barney 😉😂
