Thanks Major. The top 1 is indeed the album I remember and indeed the track wasn’t on the album so my memory isn’t as bad as I thought.
Then again I’ve looked at the tracks listed and don’t know half them so maybe my memory isn’t what I thought it was ….

There's a whole lotta skipping goin on this morning.
60s I skipped til the vocals at the end but should have guessed earlier.
70s I really did have to skip to the vocals, hadn't a clue from the intro.
80s I selected the correct artist straight away but selected the wrong track so had to go again.

I know we're all used to seeing repeat offenders here but when the artist in question only has 2 selections and they're listed a matter of days apart you might think that Heardle are toying with us. Oh and the intro is totally different than it's more famous cover version.

60s suited my memory best.
Recognised the 80s singer immediately but wasn’t confident of what song until Heardle offered it.
70s should be under interesting facts because it’s further evidence of short-term memories being next to useless in the internet age. I listened to this song just days ago. I wrote about it. I noted its differences from the famous cover that made a huge hit of it. And yet, all my brain could manage days later was “that’s familiar—what is it?”. Looped. Maybe there was an additional element of the guitar sound being so similar to Fleetwood Mac’s Albatross—a much stronger long-term memory for me—hindering my memory further.
Either way, I couldn’t think of what it was until the singing came in. Also, noting the differences between the original and the cover has much less impact on the brain than the strong memories of the famous cover. Still, I obviously felt like a total plonker for not getting it immediately but then again, I learned something more about my short-term memory and taking in so much so often in the internet age.

Eh no. I needed the same skips as yourself Major for the 80s track. By the time that track came out I no longer had any tapes in my car by that artist !
60s I needed the vocals before I knew it.
70s I thought I would take a stab at it as you suggested but I was completely on the wrong track. Used all the skips then and I still hadn't a clue.🙄
So once again you're way ahead of me.😉
