RIP OTD 1984. Eric Morecambe, part of the popular Morecame and Wise comedy duo, died (aged 58). He collapsed from a heart attack as he left the stage of the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury the night before. He’d suffered heart attacks in 1968 and 1979, and undergone bypass surgery.

RIP OTD 2016, Liverpool-born comedy writer Carla Lane died (aged 87). She wrote a number of successful TV comedy sitcoms, including: The Liver Birds, Butterflies, Bread, The Mistress and Solo. She was described as “the TV writer who dared to make women funny”.
