The awfully dishonest presentation on policing in Ireland given by the @NWCI speaker was galling to watch. But different standards apply to paid lobbyists. Police officers are supposed to be apolitical. It is good that the Gardaí weren’t out there lobbying on this today.

2. I used to go to sex worker rights protests. I'd give talks re violence against sex workers. I went to conferences and festivals and universities and parliaments. I met politicians, civil servants, police, NGOs. I led an active life. I was out there asking for sex worker safety

4. The police in Northern Ireland were pretty supportive and kind I have to say. They offered me protection a number of times. I always said no. I didn’t want to be the person who needs police protection. I was stubborn. I refused police protection and I refused to be silenced.

6. People were phoning in death threats all over the place. The PSNI said I’d have to cancel and I said no, I refuse to be bullied. The Gardai were awful. They were always awful but that's another story

8. I accepted the police protection. I remember at one point I wanted to go to the toilet, like I’d been sitting around in separate rooms with bodyguards drinking tea for hours, I wanted to use the bathroom. So I asked and they said yes, but they’d have to come with me.
