OTD in 1969 David Bowie’s classic single, Space Oddity, was released in the UK. The song is about the launch into space of Major Tom, a fictional astronaut, and was released just 5 days before the launch of Apollo 11. It reached No.5 in the UK, but No.1 on re-release in 1975.
