RIP OTD in 2007 Liverpool-born Jazz singer, critic and writer, George Melly, died (aged 80). His singing style, particularly for the blues, was strongly influenced by his idol, Bessie Smith. As a brilliant story-teller, he featured on chat shows and published many books on his life.
