OTD in 1949 Soul and funk singer-songwriter Lionel Richie was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, USA. He featured in the funk band, The Commodores, before embarking on a hugely successful solo career. Piano ballads are his forte, and he’s sold over 90 million records.

RIP OTD in 2017 American rapper Albert Johnson, better known by his stage name, “Prodigy”, died (aged 42). He had suffered a significant medical episode arising from his life-long battle with sickle-cell anemia.
