There has been a total of 6,136 deaths related to COVID-19 notified in Ireland. This includes 49 deaths newly notified in the past week (since last Wednesday).

s-gene target failure.
The PCR test looks for 3 different gene sequences and at variants with the SGTF the PCR test becomes postive but only 2 sequences are found and then you know its probably alpha/omicron/whatever.

Hopefully this works. We keep undoing the vaccine progress by not being thorough with all the other interventions or declaring we're out of the woods when we're still banging into trees. In the end we may need a solution that works over and above the ongoing failures of governments and people. Like how we need to keep schools and workplaces open in a safe way but have ended up with them open and empty with huge numbers infected with potential long-term consequences.
