Quote from Barney Rubble on May 7, 2022, 11:10 pm41 years on from the death of Bobby Sands, Sinn Féin become the largest party in Stormont !🇮🇪👏🏻👏🏻
Sands had been elected as MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone shortly before his death and so began what Danny Morrison called The Armalite and the Ballot Box as Sinn Féin realized that the way forward was by political means rather than violence.
It was a number of years before the IRA ceased their campaign though but thankfully it has been relatively peaceful the last 20+ years up here compared to when I was a child.
The seeds of tonight's victory were sown during those dark days of the 1981 hunger strike.
