4 September 1886. Geronimo surrendered in Skeleton Canyon, Arizona to US General, Nelson Miles. For 30 years, he battled to protect his tribe’s homeland, but by 1886 the Apaches were hopelessly outnumbered. 4 September 1981. The women’s Greenham Common peace protest against the siting of cruise missiles at the US Air Force base in Berkshire began.
