Gig from Taras Shevchenko, New York 1981. Portrait on the wall behind the band. Such good memories of watching this with a friend who never made it this far. 💔 The move from Joy Division to New Order in one song in New York. Two great bands in their own right. Electric shock 2.20. 2.46 Barney finds his New Order voice and commits to a different future.

”Out of all the renditions of Temptation that the band has done (including the original 1982 7 and 12 inch singles, ’87 an ’98 re-recordings) this one has to be my absolute favorite. There’s something just so innocent about it, if that makes sense. A few people I know consider this concert to be the one where N.O. stepped out of the foggy and brooding atmosphere of Joy Division; but I consider this specific song to be that moment. The juttering synthesizers, Hooky’s storming melodic bass, Bernard’s vocals pushing up and out with uncertainty against an absolute juggernaut of an instrumental, it’s all there. Even in their appearance, and the stage lighting. It surpasses nostalgia and crushes future expectations into nothing.”
