OTD 1953, Mike Oldfield was born in Reading. His work blends progressive rock with folk, and electronic new-age music. His biggest commercial success was the 1973 album, Tubular Bells, which launched Virgin Records. Its opening was used in the horror film, The Exorcist.

OTD 1966, the classic album Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys was released in the USA. It was produced and arranged, by Brian Wilson, with Tony Asher providing the lyrics. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked it No.2 on its list of “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.
