RIP OTD 1940. Swiss-born artist Paul Klee died (aged 60). He was influenced by Expressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism and was hugely popular in Weimar Germany, but his work was described as “Degenerate Art” during the Nazi period and banned.

Born OTD 1963. Modern artist Tracey Emin, was born in Croydon. She’s best known for her work: Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963–1995, which featured her unmade bed. It was exhibited at Charles Saatchi's Sensation exhibition held at the Royal Academy in London in 1997.

OTD in 1962 Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans Exhibition was opened to the public at the Ferus Gallery, Los Angeles, USA. It featured paintings of 32 different flavoured Campbell’s soup cans that were photographed, and then traced onto canvas and hand-painted.
